Is Prostatitis a Contagious Illness?

A lot of patients with prostatitis are worried about that the infection will be spread to their partners, therefore they usually dare not have sex, which makes the relationship vulnerable. Besides, prostatitis patients themselves are also under great pressure. The fact is that whether it is contagious depends on the kind of pathogens that cause prostatitis.

It is not contagious in most cases. Prostatitis is mainly caused by bacteria, viruses and other pathogens infect the prostate through the urethra which can be classified into acute bacterial prostatitis, chronic bacterial prostatitis and chronic nonbacterial prostatitis. Patients with chronic nonbacterial prostatitis even do not carry pathogens, how can it be infectious?

Though patients with acute and chronic bacterial prostatitis can bring bacteria to the body of the male though sex life, however, it also depends on what bacteria the patient carries.

If it’s caused by common bacteria such as E. Coli, patients do not need to worry about if it is contagious. That is because women's vagina, as the first barrier of female reproductive system has a strong ability of resisting external bacterial infections. Apart from that, acute bacterial prostatitis has a rapid morbidity, the disease is serious.

Symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, dysuria, and fever appear. In this situation, patients with prostatitis can not have sex, let alone infection.

Patients with chronic bacterial prostatitis do not need to worry about infection. Because possible pathogen to cause chronic nonbacterial prostatitis only infect the prostate gland and cannot be found at men's perineum area. In the prostate fluid, there are large amount of white blood cells and only a few pathogens with low pathogenicity which can be killed in women's vagina.

Thence, if the prosatitis is caused by common bacterial infection, it is not contagious.

If the pathogen is mycoplasma or Chlamydia, things are different. Such prostatitis can be infected to the mates of the patients through sex. These two pathogens are mainly transmitted through sex. Patients who are infected with them will have a situation that their condition recurs, and which is difficult to recover. Many couples visit the doctor together because they both are infected with either of them, obviously, the disease is highly infectious.

When the husband is suffering from prostatitis which was caused by mycoplasma or chlamydia infection, it is not proper to have sex, in order not to infect the wife. If the wife is also infected with mycoplasma, then both husband and wife must be treated simultaneously, sex should be avoided during treatment for preventing cross-infection.

Whether it is infectious or non-infectious prostatitis, patients can all take Diuretic and anti-inflammatory Pill. Diuretic and Anti-inflammatory Pill is pure Chinese medicine, it causes no side effects, and the herbs in it can clear away heat and toxic materials and kill various pathogens. In the same time, it can also promote blood circulation and dissolve stasis. Since it has no side effects, patients can have a continuous treatment.
