There are many factors can induce the relapse of prostatitis , such as unhealthy living habits, improper use of medicine, antibiotic-resistance. Your friend should do lifestyle changes and take medicines properly. Here are the tips to cope with prostatitis:

1. Drink copious amounts of water to help keep the system flushed.
2. Drink cranberry juice, which has properties that dislodge bacteria from the bladder wall so that loose invading bacteria are washed away.
3. Follow a daily regimen of vitamin and mineral supplements, which include antioxidants, vitamins A, C and E, beta-carotene and selenium.
4. Do kegel exercises, which involve repeatedly contracting and relaxing the muscles that form part of the pelvic floor.
5. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods such as hot peppers, chili, pickles and salsa, which can make the problems worse.
6. A prostate massage can help ease prostate infection symptoms. Using herbs such as valerian or crambark to help muscles relax can also be beneficial.
7. Take warm sitz bath. Sitting in a tub full of the hottest water you can tolerate for 15 to 30 minutes, and cold soaks may also be therapeutic and should be alternated with hot soaks. (It's not suitable for unmarried men, for it may cause infertility)
8. Take the prescribed course of medicines even if the symptoms disappear. The purpose is to make sure the infection has completely cleared.
